How Much Does Christmas Light Installation Cost in Calgary?

Warm white icicle Christmas lights on a two-storey Calgary home, installed by Grey Rock Group

Christmas Light Installation Prices in Calgary

Short answer: if you already have your own lights, installation starts at $250 when you book in November through mid-December, and $225 when you book in October. Takedown is priced separately, because some clients take their lights down themselves and others like to leave them up.

Buying lights from us too? Our three example homes below cost about $420 to $1,430 in the first year. After that the lights are yours, so you only pay for installation (plus takedown, if you want us to take them down). All prices are before GST.

We don't make you book a visit to find out if you're in the right range. Our full rate card is on our website, and your quote uses the same numbers.

How Our Pricing Works

Your price has four parts:

  1. Installation. Priced per strand. The rate depends on how high the lights go and when in the season you book.

  2. The lights. You buy them from us per strand. They're yours to keep.

  3. Accessories. Only what your setup needs: timers ($35), clips ($7 per strand), 3-way adapters ($8.50 each) and outdoor extension cords ($16 to $65, 3 m to 30 m).

  4. Takedown. 40% of your installation price, with a $90 minimum.

Every job has a minimum spend. Prices are plus GST.

Already Have Your Own Lights?

Then you only pay for installation and takedown.

  • Installation minimum: $225 in October, $250 from November 1 to December 14, $280 from December 15 to 23.

  • Takedown: 40% of your installation price, with a $90 minimum.

Most single-storey rooflines land at or near the minimum. If your strands aren't a standard length, we price installation per foot.

What Changes Your Price

  • Height. Second level, third level and peaks cost more per strand.

  • Bulb style. Icicle strands are 7 ft long, so a roofline needs more of them than C9 or C6.

  • Clipping every bulb. For a crisp, straight line, we clip every C6 bulb for $70 per strand (standard season).

  • Railings, pillars and fences. These start at first level pricing and vary with height and detail.

  • C6 double wrap. Twice the standard rate on a house, or $10 more per strand on trees.

  • Your own lights. We'll install them. Strands that aren't a standard length are priced per foot.

  • Outside Calgary. Travel fees start at $40 for Okotoks, Airdrie, Cochrane, Priddis and Bragg Creek. Ask us about Canmore and Banff.

  • Repairs to an existing setup. $150 per hour, per person, with seasonal minimums.

How to Spend Less

  • Book in October. Early season rates are the lowest, and you get first pick of install dates.

  • Buy the lights once. They're yours, so next year you only pay for installation (and takedown, if you want it).

  • Start with the roofline. Add trees or railings next year.

  • Book takedown for January or February to skip the off-season surcharge.
